At Optelma Lighting, sustainability in manufacturing is a core value that guides our approach to both design and production. We are committed to reducing the environmental impact of our lighting products through every stage of their lifecycle— from sourcing materials to the end of their use. Our focus is on creating lighting solutions that are energy-efficient, long-lasting, and environmentally responsible, ensuring that each product we produce supports a cleaner, greener future.

Key aspects of sustainability in our manufacturing process include:

1. Eco-friendly Materials: We prioritise the use of sustainable, recyclable, and non-toxic materials in the production of our lighting products. By choosing materials that are easily recyclable or biodegradable, we help minimize environmental impact and reduce the depletion of valuable natural resources. The aluminium in our products uses a total of 78% of recycled material, of this 13% is post consumer and 65% is pre consumer recycled material.

2. Energy-efficient Production: At Optelma Lighting, we aim to minimize energy consumption during manufacturing by implementing energy-efficient production technologies and sourcing only renewable energy sources. This reduces our carbon footprint and contributes to cost-effective, sustainable operations.

3. Waste Minimization: We are committed to reducing waste throughout our production process. Our efforts include recycling scrap materials, reducing excess packaging, and adopting lean manufacturing techniques. This approach ensures that less material ends up in landfills and more is reused or repurposed. Since 2023 we have recycled the same weight in aluminium as an adult Basking Shark (5200kg).

4. Extended Product Lifecycle: We design and produce lighting solutions that are built to last. By enhancing the durability and longevity of our products, we reduce the frequency of replacements and minimize the environmental impact associated with the manufacturing, transport, and disposal of lighting products.

5. Circular Economy: Optelma Lighting embraces a circular economy approach by designing products for easy disassembly and recycling. This allows us to extend the lifecycle of our products and reduce waste, supporting a more sustainable future.

6. Reduction of Hazardous Substances: We eliminated harmful chemicals, such as mercury and lead, from all our lighting products, opting for safer alternatives that ensure the well-being of both users and the environment.

7. Sustainable Packaging: We prioritize the use of minimal, recyclable, and biodegradable packaging materials. Our goal is to reduce waste and contribute to a more sustainable world through thoughtful packaging design. We encourage our suppliers to adopt our values on packaging and where no recyclable materials are received we re use in our own internal shipments so are never sent to landfill.
